“We wish to see you perform a
miracle.” (Mt 12:38)
The people who have heard of
Jesus, the miracle performer asks him for a sign, to perform a miracle. This
may appear to be a natural reaction from the people; a good singer may be asked
to sing a song, an actor to act something, and magician to do some magic etc.
But from the response of Jesus we understand this cannot be just taken as a
natural reaction of the people. This clearly reminds us of the temptations of
Jesus at very beginning of his public ministry. There Jesus was repeatedly
asked to perform miracles to which he negatively responded and the Satan left
him for a while. When we are asked to perform our talents and abilities make
sure whether it is for the glory of God. If it aims only at my name and fame,
there is more possibility of Satan’s deception. Jesus always performed miracles
for the glory of his father and the greatest miracle was his own death on the
cross. For him that was the final moment of the fulfillment of his duties
entrusted to him by father while on earth. We may be at times tempted to
project ourselves before people and authorities. Remember on those moments the
prayer of Jesus, “Father, I have shown your glory on earth; I have finished the
work you gave me to do. Give me glory in your presence now.”(Jn 17:4,5)
Take courage God is with you!
Have a nice and blissful day….
