“If you had been here, Lord,
my brother would not have died!”(Mt 13:32)
Martha is just that; a simple
woman. Whether in the gospel of Luke (Lk 10:38-42) or in the gospel of John (Jn
11:1-12:8) she is very plain and straight forward. Of course, she doesn’t know
much of today’s artificial smiles or behavior. Still I like her character,
personality very much. Whenever her friend Jesus was guest to her house she was
a very busy happy host and servant, and whenever she was sad and sorrowful
Jesus had to be her real consoler. Whenever felt left alone she was so much
worried and wanted to be supported by her friends, especially of Jesus. Many
relatives and friends were there to console her at Lazarus’ death. But as she
heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him. Because she believed he
only could give her the real consolation. And today we celebrate with solemnity
the feast of this simple, plain saint, Martha, sister of Lazarus and Mary. On
this feast day of Martha, let ask our Lord Jesus Christ for the special graces
we need today to be simple in our lives and always depend on Jesus and love him
sincerely.
Take courage God is with you!
Have a nice and blissful day….
