“Jesus called to him his twelve disciples and gave
them authority over unclean spirits…” (Mt 10:1)
Our Lord Jesus called to him his twelve beloved disciples
and gave them authority over evil spirits. It seems to me that this verse
carries an incredible gift as well as a fantastic task. It is for sure an
undeserving gift that man can receive from God. Almighty God really makes feeble
man participant in his divinely power. Let us thank God for this wonderful
gift. This verse reveals a double edged task. On the one side it makes man
capable of driving out evil spirits from others, on the other side, it reminds
him always to be away from sins and impurities. That is why Jesus told his
disciples that they should pray and fast before they drive out demons. That
means they should be completely in union with God by denying themselves, their
bodily pleasures. Many people today suffer from evil spirits and habitual sins.
They really want to get rid of those bad things. But they can’t, because, they
are not totally united to God. St. Paul says, “When what is perfect comes, then
what is partial will disappear.” (1 Cor 13:10) Let us be first filled with the
love of God and be free from sins. Wish you all a nice day…
