Holy
Rosary Month - Day 17: Luminous Mysteries 4
The
transfiguration of our Lord at Mount Tabor: In the fourth luminous mystery we
meditate on the transfiguration of our Lord at Mount Tabor. Why does it come under luminous
mystery? The theme of light and glory continue here in this mystery too; “As
they looked on, a change came over Jesus: his face was shining like the sun,
and his clothes were dazzling white.” (Mt17:2) The figure of Moses, tents,
shining cloud, voice from the shining cloud, and the disciples’ falling down to
ground etc. remind us of the theophany of God in the wilderness of Sinai. The
disciples joyously expressed their wish through Peter to be there on the
mountain, “Lord, how good it is that we are here! If you wish I will make three
tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” (Mt 17:4) The
reply was not from Jesus to whom they asked but from God the father, “This is
my own dear son, with whom I am well pleased – listen to him!” (Mt 17:5) I do
believe that it was also to make them aware that they were not simply dreaming,
but were in a real life experience and are now ready to take up the mission
from heaven given through Jesus, the son of God. ‘Listen to Jesus,’ who took up
the mission of the father, fulfilled them and glorified Him. (Jn 17:4)
Paul
says about this mission of Jesus, “He always had the nature of God, but he did
not think that by force he should try to become equal with God. Instead of
this, of his own free will he gave up all he had, and took up the nature of a
servant.” (Phil 2:6, 7) Now the disciples are also asked to leave mountain of
glory and go down to the valley where they will find people who are in need of their
help and support. It is in a way a sharing in the salvific act of the Lord our
God; it is the mission of proclamation entrusted to the disciples, “Your light
must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and
praise your father in heaven.” (Mt 5:17) It means that the joy of the listening
to the word should make us come down to our life situations and do good; the
joy of the vision of glory should also make us share our God experience with
our brethren. Does this luminous mystery illumine my life?
Prayer:
Oh Mary, mother
of Jesus! We come to you today for your special maternal help and protection.
Mary, our mother and guide; help us to understand the meaning of revelations
and direct us how to listen to the word of God and live accordingly. In this
holy mystery we specially pray for all those who have received the gift of
vision that they may use it under the genuine guidance for the good of the
church. Let those who have not received it may not use it and mislead the
people. Mary, sweet of wisdom, pray for us. Amen!
Greetings:
Wish you all a nice and blissful Marian Friday!
