Holy
Rosary Month - Day 16: Luminous Mysteries 3
The
proclamation of God’s Kingdom: In
the third luminous mystery we meditate on the proclamation of God’s Kingdom. Why does it come under luminous
mystery? The Psalmist says, “The unfolding of your words sheds light; it
imparts understanding to the simple.” (Ps 119:130) The revelation of God is the
source of true knowledge for it comes from God; it eliminates darkness from our
lives and gives right knowledge of God. Therefore, the Psalmist rightly
declares, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Ps 119:105)
After the formation of the Israel, ‘people of God’, ‘they were given through
Moses the Ten Commandments which was the manifestation of God’s will.’ (Ex 31:18)
They were to obey these commandments unconditionally in order to be the people
of God. They were blessed abundantly by God whenever they were faithful to God
and his commandments and were punished whenever gone unfaithful (examples of kings
Saul, David, and Solomon) Most of the part of their life, Israelite proved themselves
that faithfulness to God cannot be lived effortlessly.
However,
the loving God was always faithful to them even when they were unfaithful and according
to his promise, the eternal Word, the second person of the trinity, became
flesh and dwelt among humankind. “For, God so loved the world that he gave his
only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have
eternal life.” (Jn 3:16) Jesus, the Son therefore, taught people about the
kingdom of God and its values. He asserted that he has come not to abolish the
laws given by God through Moses but to fulfill them (Mt 5:17); he asked them to
review their good works like prayer, fasting, and almsgiving and find out
whether they are done according to the spirit of the children of God the father
(Mt 6:1) i.e. they should be done not for showing others or seeking men’s glory
but for the glory of God; and he asked them not to judge others or behave like false
prophets, but be like true disciple who built his house on the rock. (Mt
7:21-27) All these teachings did shed light on the lives of the hearers and
they were astonished at his teaching, “for he taught them as one having
authority, and not as their scribes.’ (Mt 7:28, 29) Do I really allow this
proclamation of Jesus enter into my heart and live a life of the child of the
light?
Prayer:
Oh Mary, mother
of Jesus! We come to you today for your special maternal help and protection. Mary,
our mother and guide; help us to listen to the proclamation of the word of God
with attention and live accordingly. In this holy mystery we specially pray for
all those who yearn for the word of the Lord but often distracted and deviated
from its path. Let them be guided by the Holy Spirit and be convinced of the
fact that “Happy are those who do not follow the counsel of the wicked, or take
the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight
is in the law of the Lord,” (Ps 1:1) through the intercession of holy Mary.
Amen!
Greetings:
Wish you all a nice and blissful Marian Thursday!
