Holy
Rosary Month - Day 13: Joyful Mysteries 5
The
Finding of Jesus in the Temple:
In the fifth joyful mystery we meditate on the finding
of Jesus in the Temple.
The joy of the joyful mysteries is in its culmination now. Though we are happy
as we get something new or a gift, but our joy becomes double while we get back
something which we
had lost. This joy is well expressed in many and varied ways in the bible. In
the Lucan parables of lost sheep, lost coin, and prodigal son (Lk 15) we see
this well illustrated. Surely we are not in any way comparing the lost ones of
these parables to Jesus, but to feel the joyous celebration of the shepherd,
the woman, and the loving father and compare it with the joy of Mary and
Joseph. When the anxious search for Jesus among their travelling companions
failed they went back up to Jerusalem. Prophet Simon’s prophecy that sorrow,
like a sharp sword, would break Mary’s heart is on its way now. Her journey
back to Jerusalem had certainly more speed than her hurried visit to Elizabeth.
On
the third day, they found Jesus seated among the teachers who on Saturdays and
festivals explained the Holy Scriptures, and discussed doctrinal matters with
the people. However, Mary could not but express her great happiness in her
maternal loving question, “My son, why have you done this to us? Your father
and I have been terribly worried trying to find you.” (Lk 2:48) Certainly it
was an expression of her love, affection, sorrow, distress, and anxiety, and so
on. However, this question of mother Mary brought to her good news; what I
would like to call, “the second annunciation.” For, today what she heard from
Jesus was an affirmation of the promise of Gabriel; “He will be great and will
be called the Son of the Most High.” (Lk 1:32) Yes, in his answer it is
apparent, “Why did you have look for me? Didn't you know that I had to be in my
father’s house? The joyous mysteries began with the annunciation of the angel Gabriel
and joyously end with another annunciation from Jesus himself. How wonderful it
is!
Prayer:
Oh Mary, mother
of Jesus! We come to you for your maternal help and protection. Mary, our
mother and guide; help us to understand the meaning of being alert and watchful
in Christian life that we may not lose Jesus and his values in our life. In
this holy mystery we specially pray for those who have lost their Christian values
and try to regain it. Let them be filled with the confidence that “he has a
father whose heart is filled with pity and ready to receive him with all his
love,” (Lk 15:20) through the intercession of holy Mary. Amen!
Greetings:
Wish you all a nice and blissful Marian Monday!
