“God will
repay you on the day the good people rise from death.” (Lk 14:14b)
Today’s Passage: Lk 14:12-14
Meditation: Today’s word of the Lord gives
us the greatest assurance from Jesus toward all our good works. We know for
sure that Jesus was totally against the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and the
teachers of the law (Mt 23:1-36) for they wanted everything to be done before
others in view of the glory of human beings. Nevertheless, he always urged his
disciples to do all their good works in secret in view of their glory before
God the father. Jesus says, “When you give something to a needy person, do not
make a big show of it, as the hypocrites do in the houses of worship and on the
streets. They do it so that people will praise them. I assure you they have
already been paid in full. But when you help a needy person, do it in such a
way that even your closest friend will not know about it.” (Mt 6:2, 3; cf. also
Mt 6:5-7; and 16-18) We know that on the Day of Judgment the righteous ones were
rewarded for all their good works done in secret; even for those they were not
remembering what they had done toward their brethren. (Mt 25:37-39) Jesus had
promised, “I assure you that anyone who gives you a drink of water because you
belong to me will certainly receive his reward.” (Mk 9:41) Therefore, giving
glory to God should become the motto our Christian life. St. Paul says,
“Whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, do it all for God’s glory.” (1Cor
10:31) In other words it has to become the rhythm of our life; Job says, “The
Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” Then,
we won’t count the return of what we have done. For, we have the confidence
that “God will repay you on the day the good people rise from death.” (Lk 14:14b)
Prayer: Lord God, we thank you and praise you for your daily
eternal bread. Help each one of us to search for the greater glory of God than
the glory of men. Let all our works of charity be rewarded by God than by the
people. We ask for this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!
Greetings: God is with you! Have a nice and blissful Monday…
