Holy Rosary Month - Day 2: Preparatory Mysteries 1

Holy Rosary Month - Day 2: Preparatory Mysteries 1

Promise of a redeemer: In the first preparatory mystery we meditate on God’s promise of a redeemer. In his love God created the world and everything in it in six days and rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. (Gen 2:2) As the crown of creation, “God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them,” (Gen 1:27) and were named Adam and Eve. God loved them so much that he gave them the beautiful Garden of Eden, the earthly paradise “to till it and keep it.” (Gen 2:15) They were given the precious gift of freedom or free will and were very happy. But their happiness could not last long as they gave heed to Satan’s word rather to God’s promise. This is what we call the original sin. Through this original sin they lost the grace or the real friendship of God. Now they cannot come freely before him or be with him for they are ashamed and afraid. On God’s questioning, they began excusing themselves by condemning the other. As always God’s steadfast love and kindness stood with the weakest and punished the eternal liar. Since the root of the original sin was Satan, God punished him saying, “Because you have done this, cursed are you among all animals… I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heal.” (Gen 3:14, 15) Of course, both Adam and Eve misused their free will and therefore, they were also punished but not eternally like Satan. Punishment of Satan was in a way a promise and good news to mankind; a blessing in disguise. This becomes the first promise as to the birth of the redeemer. Here begins the preparation for receiving Jesus, the Messiah. The woman through her pangs in childbearing and love for her husband and family and the man through his sweat of his face began the first steps toward the preparation. (Gen 3:16, 19)

Prayer: Oh Mary, mother of Jesus! We come to you for your help and protection. Through the original sin Adam and Eve lost their grace and their deeds displeased God the creator. But, Oh Mary, my mother, your words and deeds certainly pleased God. And you were addressed by the angel Gabriel as one “with full of grace.” Teach us also to lead a life of virtues, prayers, and good deeds.  Amen!

Greetings:  Wish you all a nice and blissful Marian Thursday!
