“No one tears a piece off a new coat to patch an old coat. If he does, he will have torn the new coat, ... ” (Lk 5:36)

“No one tears a piece off a new coat to patch an old coat. If he does, he will have torn the new coat, and the piece of the new cloth will not match the old. ” (Lk 5:36)

Today’s Passage: Lk 5:33-39
Meditation:  Patch works and make ups are today’s benchmarks. Many people are nowadays after this wonderful magic. It makes persons and things more attractive to others. We see often buildings even in its dilapidated stage, decorated beautifully attract a lot of business as well as common people. Some secondhand vehicles, we have seen, draw more attention than the firsthand vehicles. Old persons easily become young and smarter than the teenagers after spending some time and more money in the beauty parlors. This is really fantastic! All these have become high profitable business also. However, in today’s gospel passage Jesus’ says, “No one tears a piece off a new coat to patch an old coat. If he does, he will have torn the new coat, and the piece of the new cloth will not match the old.” (Lk 5:36) Patch ups and make ups cannot last long; they prove themselves duplicate and short living. People who were after them, later leaves them forever. This is also meaningful in our religious also. Conversion becomes meaningful and effective only when you give up everything that was against the will of god, that kept you away from the Lord, and that obstructed you from good deeds and words. St. Paul will say, “You must put on the new self, who is created in God’s likeness and reveals itself in the true life that is upright and holy.” (Eph 4:24) You cannot simply go after Jesus and at the same do what all things your former evil self were doing. Even after many retreats, why don’t we feel that we are changed? Or why are we not able to continue in our god-experience we received from the retreat. Let us meditate over and again on Jesus’ words.
Prayer:    Lord God, we thank you and praise you for your daily eternal bread. How many retreats and bible conventions have I wasted in my life without making use of it fruitfully and effectively? Lord, today I know for sure that all my efforts were in vain only because of that I was not ready to give up fully my bad habits, friendships and sins. I rededicate myself this day as to renew everything in Jesus Christ. Amen!

Greetings:       Take courage! God is with you! Have a nice and blissful Friday…
